MILES offers many opportunities to succeed in college to students. Often, new students arrive on campus from rural schools (including tribal schools), and/or as first generation college attendees. Many of these students have had few, if any, mentors to coach them on strategies for being successful at a university. Mentoring, additionally, is an effective tool for assuring student progress, and for broadening students' resource and support network. The MILES mentoring program, integrated with existing mentoring programs, will involve faculty mentoring as well as peer mentoring.
Please note that MILES requires a new application packet to be submitted each semester or summer and that funding of these proposals is a competitive process among both new and continuing peers that are applying.
